After six years under Tory ownership little progress has been made - Rebecca Long-Bailey
Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on the Royal Bank of Scotland’s reported losses of more than £2billion in their half year results said:
“RBS
has been bailed out using taxpayer money but while we own the shares, the
Conservatives have been asleep at the wheel.
“After six years under Tory ownership, as today’s news and last week’s stress
test showed, little progress has been made.
“Philip Hammond needs to get a grip of the situation. It seems there is little
prospect of the profitable sale of publicly-owned shares in RBS as George
Osborne’s strategy for the future of the bank promised.
“Instead the Conservatives need to deliver a long term plan for banking that
ends loss-making at public expense, and instead delivers for the UK
economy.”
