Tories leave thousands of parents in the lurch as Chancellor reveals flagship tax-free childcare rollout is to be delayed AGAIN
· Budget reveals that
tax-free childcare rollout promised in 2013 will be delayed for a SECOND TIME.
· Parents promised this help before the last election now won’t see it until Autumn 2017 at the earliest
· This comes as Government’s own survey found a third of parents struggle with the cost of childcare.
· This delay comes on top of one in three families promised 30 hours childcare for three-and four-year-olds by the Tories at the last election set to miss out because of broken promises
Jenny Chapman, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Childcare and Children, commenting on the further delay, said:
“Hidden in the small print of George Osborne’s Budget of failure is another nasty surprise for thousands of hard pressed working parents. Due to Ministerial bungling their tax free childcare scheme has been delayed by a further six months. Parents will have been waiting over four years for this help by the time it finally comes in in Autumn 2017.”
“Ministers need to get a grip and sort out their childcare plans so that working parents can get the help they need.”
