Osborne’s relaxed oversight of the bankers is putting us at risk again - John McDonnell MP
John McDonnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to the interview today by Mervyn King in which he warns that lessons from 2008 have not been learned, said:
“Mervyn King is today echoing the warning I, along with many others, have issued to the Chancellor - that his relaxed oversight of the bankers is putting us at risk again.
"In recent months George Osborne has removed the consumers’ champion at the FCA, allowed the halting of the investigation into banking culture and weakened banking regulations
"His decision to let the bankers off the leash to cause havoc again proves what many people have been saying - George Osborne really is the bankers’ chancellor.”
