Astounding that Cameron and Osborne’s failure to address concerns about tax credit cuts results in Tory MP boycotting Treasury Minister’s visit - Malhotra
Seema Malhotra MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on Tory MP Stephen McPartland’s ‘boycott’ of a Treasury Minister’s visit to his constituency today, said:
“It is simply astounding that David Cameron and George Osborne’s failure to address concerns around their proposed tax credit cuts means one of their own MPs has had to protest in this way.
“This latest development comes on the day another Tory MP has suggested that George Osborne pursues a proposal similar to Labour’s.
“With more than three million working families set to lose an average of £1,300 from next April as a result of the Tories’ work penalty it’s becoming increasingly clear that the only fair and sensible option for George Osborne is to commit to a full reversal of his plans, which would push a further 200,000 children into poverty.”
