Right to Buy through the mass forced sale of affordable homes is unworkable and wrong - Healey

labourpress

John Healey MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Minister Housing and Planning, responding to reports that the extension of the Right to Buy may be restricted because of lack of funding, said:

“Labour has said from the start that the Government’s plan to fund an extension of the Right to Buy through the mass forced sale of affordable homes is unworkable and wrong—and so it is proving.

“The Prime Minister promised 1.3 million housing association tenants the right to buy their own home at a discount.

“The question for the Government is: how many tenants will be let down and will not, in fact, have this right next year?

“Everyone from the Institute of Fiscal Studies to the Chartered institute of Housing has raised concerns that the Government’s numbers simply don’t add up.

“Many housing association tenants will find next year that they have been badly let down by the Prime Minister’s promises.”
