Parties in Northern Ireland must now show responsibility and courageous leadership to prevent the collapse of the political institutions - Ivan Lewis
Ivan Lewis MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, commenting on the crisis at Stormont, said:
“Northern Ireland’s parties now have a final opportunity to show the responsibility and courageous leadership, which will be necessary to prevent the collapse of the political institutions.
“We support the UK and Irish Governments in their commitment to facilitate intensive talks. However, the parties have to be willing to compromise and commit to begin rebuilding the trust which has all but disappeared.
“For all those who have sacrificed so much for peace and stability in Northern Ireland the stakes couldn’t be higher. It is time to choose between political strife and division or a renewed commitment to building a better future.”
